Holiday Fun in Glendale, CA

Posted on December 31, 2018

Looking for some holiday activities to do with your friends and family this season, but don’t want to go too far? Well, lucky for you, we’ve taken the time to make a list of some fun things to do around town this week that could be a fit for the holidays:

Museum of Neon Art (MONA)

Ok, so this isn’t exactly a holiday activity TECHNICALLY, but bear with us here. This museum is dedicated to preserving neon works of art, so it’s basically the same thing as going out to look at Christmas lights. Imagine how pretty and romantic all those neon lights will be when it’s dark and cold outside, you can even pair it with some hot chocolate! Plus, the museum moved from LA to Glendale, so it’s an easy drive!

Verdugo Park

Parks are fun all year round in sunny SoCal. This is one of the biggest parks around, and it’s right next to the Verdugo mountains, in case you feel like amping up your outdoor time with some hiking. They also have picnic areas: this would be a great place to have a holiday meal if you’re tired of being cooped up inside with your whole extended family (not that that would ever be tiring!) Also a great place for a romantic evening walk with a hot chocolate.

Alex Theatre

It’s a tradition for many families to go see a movie in the theatre on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Movie theatres are usually one of the only businesses that stay open! Our own Alex Theatre isn’t open ON Christmas, but they have a lot of great holiday shows coming up! Consider getting tickets to see the Nutcracker Youth Ballet! What could be a more meaningful holiday activity than experiencing a holiday classic?

Americana at Brand

Fancy some pre or post holiday shopping? Even if you’re not in the mood for shopping, there are so many things to do here for the holidays! You can make reservations to go see Santa up until the day before Christmas, oggle all of the holiday decorations, or go see a movie in the theatre (even on Christmas!)

Moonlight Rollerway

This is like California’s version of ice-skating, so what could be more festive? Of course you could actually go ice-skating, but that just feels a bit unnatural in LA County. This roller rink is open through Christmas with daily skating events and fancy lights! They also host classes and parties, and they even have a snack bar.

LA Zoo

And of course, the iconic LA Zoo Lights Event which is going on through January 6th.These tickets are even cheaper than general admission, including a discount for membership holders, and you’ll even get to see some holiday animals like reindeer! Almost all of the gift shops and food areas are open, and it’s a rare opportunity to explore the zoo you probably already know all too well AT NIGHT. Plus there’s tons of gorgeous light displays all over the place.

Universal Studios

There’s always a million events going on at Universal Studios so it never gets old, especially this year when there’s a Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter event! This is going on until January 6th with a dazzling snowfall, Christmas lights, holiday food, and even a frog choir! Oh, and there’s also Grinchmas going on through December 30th, where you can take your picture with the Grinch and his dog Max, experience the lighting of a 65 foot tree, send the Grinch a postcard, and see Martha May Who-vier and the Who-dolls.

Descanso Gardens

Descanso Gardens is always a beautiful place to visit. They are also having a Descanso Lights Event until January 6th that’s bound to be beautiful and romantic! Be sure to reserve your tickets online as soon as possible!

The Arboretum’s Moonlight Forest

Through January 6th, you can experience beautifully artistic lanterns depicting exotic animals and flowers, live acrobats, dancers, and other performers, and delicious foods from different cultures! The parking is also free, and if you’re a member of the Arboretum, you get 15% off tickets! They’ve even created this detailed festival guide so you can see the depth of all it has to offer without being overwhelmed!

From us at Orthodontics LA, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Just be sure after partaking in all those sweet treats to brush and floss those teeth…we’ll see you next year!
