Your First Visit

At Orthodontics LA, we strive to make your first visit a welcoming and informative experience. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly front desk team who will assist you with any necessary paperwork and answer any initial questions you may have. Shortly after, you’ll meet with one of our experienced orthodontists for a comprehensive consultation. During this consultation, your orthodontist will examine your teeth, jaws, and facial structure, possibly taking digital X-rays and photographs to gain a detailed understanding of your orthodontic needs.

Following the examination, your orthodontist will discuss their findings with you, explaining any potential orthodontic treatment options and answering all of your questions. We believe in a collaborative approach, so we’ll take the time to understand your goals and preferences to develop a personalized treatment plan that suits your lifestyle. Whether you’re considering braces, clear aligners, or another orthodontic solution, we’re here to provide expert guidance and support every step of the way. Your first visit is the beginning of your journey to a healthier, more beautiful smile, and we’re excited to partner with you on this transformative path!

Surgically Clean Air Purifier

At Orthodontics LA, the health and safety of our patients and staff are our top priorities. To maintain the highest standards of air quality in our office, we have integrated the Surgically Clean Air Purifier into our practice. This state-of-the-art air purification system is designed to remove pollutants, allergens, and airborne pathogens, creating a clean and safe environment for everyone. The Surgically Clean Air Purifier utilizes a multi-stage filtration process, which includes HEPA filters, UV-C light, and activated carbon. This advanced orthodontic technology ensures that the air you breathe during your visit is free from harmful contaminants, providing peace of mind and promoting overall well-being.

The benefits of the Surgically Clean Air Purifier extend beyond just eliminating germs and viruses. By continuously filtering and purifying the air, it helps reduce common allergens such as dust, pollen, and pet dander, which can be particularly beneficial for patients with respiratory sensitivities or allergies. Additionally, the system’s ability to neutralize odors creates a more pleasant and comfortable atmosphere in our office. At Orthodontics LA, we are committed to providing a superior patient experience, and investing in the Surgically Clean Air Purifier is just one of the many ways we strive to ensure your visits are both safe and enjoyable.

Emergency Care

If you have an emergency, please call our office immediately to let us know. We’ll schedule your appointment as soon as we can so that we can get everything corrected.

When To Call

You should call if you are experiencing severe pain or you are having problems with the appliance and can’t seem to correct it yourself. There are many different options that you can do at home to help solve the problem and alleviate pain:

  • If there is a loose piece, remove it if possible. Then, put it in a bag or envelope and be sure to bring it with you to your appointment.
  • If your braces are poking you, use the soft wax provided to you and apply it to the point sticking out.
  • If the wire has slid to one side, you can pull it back to the other side with needle-nosed pliers, replacing it in the tube on the back tooth.

It’s important to remember that these are temporary solutions to discomfort and not permanent fixes. You will still need to make an appointment to correct the issue. Damaged braces can affect ultimate results and may undermine the process.

General Soreness

When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth, and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for three to five days. Stick to a soft diet until your teeth do not hurt to chew. Irritated gums and other sore spots can be relieved by rinsing your mouth with a warm salt-water mouthwash. Dissolve one teaspoonful of salt in eight ounces of warm water, and rinse your mouth vigorously. If the tenderness is severe, take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or whatever you normally take for headache or similar pain. Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and Naproxen Sodium (Naprosyn, Anaprox) actually slow the tooth movement, so it is not advisable to use them frequently while wearing braces.

The lips, cheeks, and tongue may become irritated for one to two weeks as they learn a new posture and become accustomed to the surface of the braces. You can put wax on the braces to lessen this. We’ll show you how!

Headgear

Sometimes discomfort is caused by not wearing the headgear as instructed by your orthodontist. Please refer to the instructions provided by your orthodontist. If the facebow (metal piece) is bent, please call our office for assistance. The headgear should hurt less the more it’s worn, so be sure you get in the prescribed number of hours.
