As any orthodontist will tell you, sugar is definitely not the best choice for your teeth or your braces. Consuming too many sugary foods can cause some serious oral damage. However, we understand that it is not realistic to expect our patients to never have dessert! If you’re going to treat yourself, we recommend that you opt for ice cream or frozen yogurt. Dairy is great for building healthy teeth and bones, so you can balance out the sugar in your dessert with a few health benefits like calcium and probiotics (found in frozen yogurt). Here are some of our favorite ice cream and frozen yogurt spots around Encino!
Wanderlust Creamery is a unique chain of ice cream shops based in Los Angeles. Our closest location is in Tarzana! Wanderlust offers some very interesting flavors inspired by faraway places, like Sticky Rice + Mango inspired by Thailand or Smokey Road inspired by the Pacific Northwest. They always offer a selection of dairy-free treats too!
Menchie’s is a national chain of self-serve frozen yogurt shops where customers create their own flavor combinations and set their own serving size. These kinds of shops are great if you just want a little something sweet, want to mix unlimited flavors, or if you want to control your child’s portion size! We have a location conveniently located right here in Encino.
Sonny’s is a locally owned favorite located in Sherman Oaks. They serve Italian ices, cream ices, ice cream, and a few other specialty dessert treats! The shop is owned by two former veterinarians, and it is named after the one of their dogs, Sonny, who was rescued as a puppy and lived much longer than anyone believed he would, in spite of his chronic illness.
Yogurtland is another national chain with a location right here in Encino. Yogurtland is also self serve, with even more topping options like fruit, cereal, cookies, and syrups. Try their seasonal flavors, they’re unique and delicious!
Ice cream and frozen yogurt are delicious dessert options that can be customized for almost any palette, with a wide variety of flavors and toppings available at every ice cream shop. Orthodontic patients are usually especially excited about a cold, soft dessert that doesn’t hurt to chew.
